AG DAY 5: Planting my Plants

First I dug a hole to put my plants in. It was easy to dig the holes.

My mum helped me take the plants of the containers. I put them in the holes. Then I gently patted them down so the soil came up to the top.

Then I started to water them.

AG DAY: 3. Preparing the garden

Mummy told me to go outside and pull weeds out of the garden because there were heaps of weeds. Now we have nearly got every single one out.

Then we used the blue simple machine to get hard weeds out.

Now we can use the garden to plant our Ag Day plants.

AG DAY: 4. Buying my plants

After School we went to the plant shop. We bought some plants for my wreath.

A man helped us pick some plants. I told him about me wreath so he helped me pick some "kiwi summer" plants.

He showed me a plant called "frosted curls". It is a native New Zealand plant. It's found at beaches. He used to live in a beach place called Little River and he new the plant from there. He thought it would be good for me as it would turn into curls as it grew like the curls in my hair. He helped me pick a dwarf pohutakawa tree too because they are always at beaches.

When we got home it was too cold and late to plant our plants. So we will do it tomorrow. We put the plants where we wanted to plant them. Then I watered them.

AG DAY: 2. Gathering the base of my wreath

On 14 August we went to Tapapakanga Beach.

We went there to collect things to make our wreath.

I collected drift wood, shells, an egg, sea weed, fishing line, bottle tops.

AG DAY: 1. Planning my wreath

For Ag Day I am doing a wreath.

My wreath is called "Kiwi Summer". That means it will have plants in it like summertime at the beach.

I am going to make the base of my wreath out of things I find at the beach like drift wood and sea weed and shells and leaves.

I want to grow plants that you find at the beach.

I drew a plan of my wreath.
