AG DAY: 8. Making my wreath

My wreath is about Kiwi Summer.  It is about summer time, the beach, christmas, Pohutukawa trees, shells and berries.

I cut my plants that I grew. One was called frosted curls. It's a beach grass and it looks like my hair! The other one is a dwarf Pohutukawa.

We soaked the oasis in water and put it around the wreath.

I put the flowers and plants where I wanted them to go. Nana bought me some real Pohutukawa flowers from her garden. I got some red Clivia berries from our garden because they look like christmas berries.

I finisihed the flowers on my wreath and after dinner I will glue shells and fishing line and sea weed on.

I think my wreath is awesome. I hope everyone likes it.

AG DAY 7: Making the base of my wreath

I sorted my things out from the beach. I left them to dry because some were still wet.

Then I laid out my things in the shape of the wreath. My Dad made the wood shape for my wreath.

My Dad screwed my driftwood on to the wood wreath. I helped him by holding it. I told him where to put the holes and he thought that was a good idea.

I had to colour in some of the screws because the screws weren't the same colours as the wreath. I thought it was a good idea to do that.

This is what my wreath looks like now! I am still going though and on Wednesday I am going to put my flowers and shells on.

AG DAY: 6. Watering my garden

Each day I water my plants. But not if its raining. If the plants get too much water they will die.

My plants are growing good. My favourite is "Frosted Curls".

AG DAY 5: Planting my Plants

First I dug a hole to put my plants in. It was easy to dig the holes.

My mum helped me take the plants of the containers. I put them in the holes. Then I gently patted them down so the soil came up to the top.

Then I started to water them.

AG DAY: 3. Preparing the garden

Mummy told me to go outside and pull weeds out of the garden because there were heaps of weeds. Now we have nearly got every single one out.

Then we used the blue simple machine to get hard weeds out.

Now we can use the garden to plant our Ag Day plants.

AG DAY: 4. Buying my plants

After School we went to the plant shop. We bought some plants for my wreath.

A man helped us pick some plants. I told him about me wreath so he helped me pick some "kiwi summer" plants.

He showed me a plant called "frosted curls". It is a native New Zealand plant. It's found at beaches. He used to live in a beach place called Little River and he new the plant from there. He thought it would be good for me as it would turn into curls as it grew like the curls in my hair. He helped me pick a dwarf pohutakawa tree too because they are always at beaches.

When we got home it was too cold and late to plant our plants. So we will do it tomorrow. We put the plants where we wanted to plant them. Then I watered them.

AG DAY: 2. Gathering the base of my wreath

On 14 August we went to Tapapakanga Beach.

We went there to collect things to make our wreath.

I collected drift wood, shells, an egg, sea weed, fishing line, bottle tops.

AG DAY: 1. Planning my wreath

For Ag Day I am doing a wreath.

My wreath is called "Kiwi Summer". That means it will have plants in it like summertime at the beach.

I am going to make the base of my wreath out of things I find at the beach like drift wood and sea weed and shells and leaves.

I want to grow plants that you find at the beach.

I drew a plan of my wreath.

BOOK WEEK: Making my costume

My character for Book Week is Madeline. I have three Madeline books.

I have started making my costume. We bought a sunhat from Whitianga. When I got home I painted it yellow. I have done two coats of paint so that it will look like Madelines real hat.

I got a white collar from my Nanny and Poppa. It was from my great great grandma.

Mum found me some big white gloves and a blue dress to wear.

We had to make a Cape so we started to sew. Mum helped me to make my Cape.

Tomorrow it is book week parade. I am so excited about it.

I have a big secret about book week. It is that someone is going to Book Week as Miss Clavel. Miss Clavel is Madelines teacher in the books.

I practiced walking like Madeline with my hands behind my back.
